RUNNER UP: Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Online Gift Card Program – Buyatab

The Fairmont Online Gift Card Program provides the ability for Fairmont fans to acquire and send either physical Gift Cards or eGift Cards from the Fairmont website, in French or English, from their computer, mobile phone or tablet.

The program targets luxury buyers and differentiates itself is through the extraordinary experiences and memories it can facilitate through its large variety of unique properties, services and activities. There’s so much choice, enabling every visit to be unique and special for the guest. Gift card denominations are relatively high, with the average value over $300 and card denominations up to $2000 are common.

Fairmont worked with Buyatab to custom design the buying experience, layout, buttons, and ensured the branding fit 100% with their standards and website presence. The card designs are exquisite and fitting for the luxury brand. With the eGift Cards being portrait oriented as opposed to traditional landscape, Fairmont was able to create unique designs that are beautiful and without using words, convey a positive message, and possibly even stimulate emotions or memories of special times at a Fairmont.

For Black Friday, Fairmont announced only via their Facebook page, that they were having a 3 hour promotion, whereby one could acquire a $500 gift card, and receive a $100 bonus card. The results far exceeded expectations and proved the value of utilizing social media as part of their gift card marketing plan. The program is growing quickly as evidenced with year-over-year increase in the number of transactions of 92%.

BEST CORPORATE OR GOVERNMENT-FUNDED PREPAID OR PAYMENTS PROGRAM

WINNER: Alberta Emergency Relief – Intelispend Prepaid Solutions

When catastrophic floods submerged a large portion of southern Alberta last summer, thousands of Canadians (including many First Nations) suddenly found themselves homeless and in need of financial assistance. The resulting Alberta Emergency Relief Program was never a planned business initiative, but came instead out of last-minute team effort between InteliSpend and the Government of Alberta.

When no other provider was able to meet the emergency timeline necessitated by such a disaster, InteliSpend proudly stepped in to deliver prepaid cards to flood victims within 48 hours. InteliSpend customer support representation was sent directly to a disaster response hub, where a successful partnership was established with the Government of Alberta’s own representatives to distribute two different denominations of prepaid cards to displaced populations in need of aid.

Additionally, InteliSpend provided two custom Tip Sheets to educate government officials and card recipients, as well as a situation-specific area of the company website with valuable resources. One of InteliSpend’s key differentiators has always been gold standard customer service, and great pride was taken in helping get a much-needed currency solution into the hands of displaced Albertans as fast as possible.

RUNNER UP: Great-West Life Health SolutionsPlus Visa® Payment Card Program – Evolution1

Ongoing healthcare legislation as well as consumer self-service needs have created unprecedented change in the healthcare industry. Unfortunately, there is also tremendous frustration within the industry because of the low availability of self-service solutions, the time-intensive reimbursement processes, and the non-transparency of those processes. There is complexity in the reimbursement information itself, complexity in understanding the information, and complexity in the reimbursement process. This confusion is costing consumers much time, energy and money.

In the ever-changing landscape of consumer healthcare, our commitment has remained steadfast: to reduce costs and simplify the business of healthcare. The Health SolutionsPlus program does just that, and we are honoured to work with Great-West and Peoples Trust to make the solution a reality.

Evolution1 is the only electronic payment, on-premise, and cloud computing healthcare solution that offers a single end-to-end user experience, provides innovative auto-substantiation technologies, and automates workflow for Partners, employers, and consumers. Our revolutionary healthcare solutions and services empower and simplify the consumer experience. Health SolutionsPlus is a shining example.

No one else in the industry provides the single end-to-end consumer experience that Evolution1 does; no one. We will continue to lead the industry with our commitment to research and development, our focus on consumers, and our dedication to quality partnerships.

BEST PREPAID OR PAYMENTS MARKETING CAMPAIGN

WINNER: Esso Fuel Savings for the Ultimate Hockey Fan – Exchange Solutions

The Esso Fuel Savings for the Ultimate Hockey Fan campaign leveraged a strategic partnership between the Canadian NHL and ESSO whereby hockey style foil packs were distributed, free of charge, to hockey fans across seven NHL arenas throughout Canada. These kits included an Esso Price Privileges fuel rewards card and an Esso Extra loyalty card. In keeping with the hockey theme, the look and feel of the promotional kits that were distributed was reminiscent of collector hockey cards, thus capitalizing on the fandom, engagement and emotional affinity of the target audience.

The purpose of the campaign was to generate awareness and educate the target audience, generate incremental fuel sales, and acquire new loyalty program members. Fuel companies sell an extremely commoditized and largely undifferentiated product to a consumer base that often makes its purchase decision based on price and price sensitivities. The campaign exemplified how the Price Privileges card, which offered recipients gas savings with cents off per litre, is a point of differentiation from competitors, and the Esso Extra loyalty card helped to increase Esso’s brand awareness and awareness about its affiliation with and sponsorship of Canada’s NHL teams.

The in-game promotion generated enthusiasm and active participation from fans. Social media feedback indicates positive reaction and engagement to both the reward value and the card creative. One hundred percent of consumers targeted for kit distribution were reached, and early indicators suggest redemption in excess of 65%. At time of Award submission, increased enrolment of new members into the Esso Extra Loyalty program is between 5% and 10%.

RUNNER UP: The Gift of Possibilities – InComm Canada, Peoples Trust

We would like to nominate InComm Canada Prepaid Inc. and Peoples Trust for the category of “Best Marketing Campaign”. The Vanilla/Gift Card “Gift of Possibilities” holiday campaign, managed by InComm Canada was part of a corporate Marketing budget created to generate awareness of InComm’s only private label financial product (Vanilla Visa® and MasterCard® cards are issued by Peoples Trust) and selected gift cards and to highlight key retailers where consumers can purchase the Vanilla Prepaid MasterCards, Vanilla Prepaid Visa cards, and other gift cards. The campaign was executed during the month of December, leading up to the holiday gift giving season.

The objective of the holiday campaign was to create a gift-giving awareness campaign. The primary focus was to promote our private label Vanilla Prepaid MasterCard and Vanilla Prepaid Visa prepaid cards through the use of a contest/giveaway, with a secondary focus on top selling gift, music, and gaming prepaid cards. The “Gift of Possibilities” campaign’s primary message was to drive consumers to retailer locations for their holiday gift giving needs, and converting the typical “gift-giver” to a “gift-card giver”. The campaign used various forms of media to reach specific geographical areas with the largest retail footprint, which was derived from InComm’s customer and shopping research, as well as shopper demographic information.
